Yes, I think Cole is manipulating the circle. On page 39 of Touching Spirit Bear, Cole has the feather. It is his turn to talk and explain to everyone why he is at the Healing Circle. He says that he was very sorry for beating up Peter Driscal. Sure everyone thinks that statement was sincere and that Cole really does want to change and turn his life around, but Cole really doesn't mean any of that. he has no desire to change and doesn't think he ever will. He was just trying to act nice so he could get out of punishment. I don't think Cole will continue to manipulate people and situations throughout his whole life. Being on the island without anyone else will probably change him. He will learn to be good and respect others and to act responsibly in his situations.
