Touching Spirit Bear:Chapter 9 and 10
The lessons that Cole has learned from the baby birds could really help change his whole life around. For example when he first saw the mother bird feeding her young, he acted really angry. He said," That mother bird should just leave her babies. She doesn't owe them anything". On the inside, however, I think Cole was really upset and wished that his mom cared about him like the mother bird cared for her young. I think the birds also made him realize that he is fragile and weak, just like other people are. At the end of the chapter Cole finds out what it's like to care for another living thing. Because the lightning hits the tree and makes it fall down, all the baby birds die. Cole asks,"Are you OK?". Since he is learning how to become a more sensitive person, I think he will make it through this alive.

I bet your predictions are correct. I agree with you that he wished his mom had been better at caring for him and meeting his needs.
