I think the whale and wolf dance was a great thing for Cole to do. From the whale dance, Cole learned that the whales are always migrating but in the end, it never has a real home. Cole said that he felt like the whales. He didn't think he had a real place to call home either. This should help Cole in knowing that he isn't the only one out there who has problems and not a real place to call home. After the wolf dance, which he danced alone, Cole had learned that you need help from others just like a wolf pack. This should help Cole realize that it is okay to ask for help and accept it when he needs it.
